Children

Children are a special gift from God. Hence parents teach their children to respect creation and to love God and their neighbour. They also teach them to pray and to trust in God. Children experience faith primarily at home, when prayers are said and the christian faith is talked about. This all contributes to the child's development in faith.

Even very small children have their  place in the congregation . They parpicitate in Divine Services, pre -sunday school, sunday school, religion and confirmation lessons.

On Sundays children from their 4th birthday until they start school attend the pre-sunday school during the sermon part of the Divine Service. In an informal manner, suitable for children, a solid fundament of faith, which complements the primary parental work, is put into their hearts. The teachers have the newest text-book available, made with pedagogical insight. Matters from the old and new testament  and incidents which the children have experienced are put across to the children, by word and picture, whilst painting, playing and doing handicrafts. Thence they develop an early feeling of belonging and the children can experience joy in God's house and trust in God.

Sunday school is a continuation of pre-sunday school and takes place for children of the first four school years (ca 6-10) likewise during the Divine Service. Here , as well, the teachers have modern teaching material at hand. The children learn about God and his work by means of Bible stories and thus strengthen their belief in his promise. Also joy in the community is roused and furthered.

Children between 11-13 take part in Religious Instruction which takes place once a week over 3 years. As regards content, they concern themselves with biblical history, on the other hand there is a relation to everyday life. The trained teachers use as a basis a three-part text book with exercises and answer book. Religious Instruction should impart the children knowledge about the history of God's Realm and his plan of salvation.

Confirmation classes deal with the doctrine of faith and prepare the 14-15 year old youths for confirmation. With their confirmation they achieve religious maturity. They take resposibility for their own actions before God. Confirmation classes prepare them for this important step.
