The epicentre of the earthquake was in an area north of L’Aquila, about 80km northern of Rome. The tremors were felt in many parts of middle Italy.
The quake in the Abruzzo area destroyed thousands of buildings in the medieval town of L’Aquila and its surroundings. Casualties and damage were also reported in the cities and villages of the Abruzzo area. Reports of 50000 to 100000 being made homless were received. 1000 people were injured and 50 are still missing. Currently, the death toll from the earthquake stands at 250 people.
No New Apostolic Christians live in the affected area.
We feel very closely with the suffering of the people in the area of L’Aquila. As New Apostolic Christians we want to hope and pray that all those affected in the disaster area can be helped.
The New Apostolic Church Italy is currently contemplating what actions for direct aid can be made in the area. The intention is to act in a quick and decisive manner in order to participate with helping.
